Project Overview
A custom teak vanity was chosen for its natural water resistance and warm tone. The deep soaking tub-important both culturally and therapeutically-was sunken for easier access, particularly for the petite wife. The dropped ceiling over the tub was raised, and a solar-powered skylight was installed overhead to help release steam. The skylight can be programmed to open and close as needed, while an enlarged wall window brings in more natural light.
The entire bathroom is wrapped in Calacatta-look large format porcelain tile. By using a mix of textures, finishes, and sizes, the walls, floors, and wainscoting offer a subtle, calming variation. Fixtures and accessories in Brushed Bronze add warmth and continuity-including stylish grab bars for safety without sacrificing aesthetics.
An integrated LED medicine cabinet is recessed into the wall, with adjustable color temperature for tailored lighting. Every design choice was made to balance durability, elegance, and sensory calm-making this bathroom a functional and serene escape.
Before
The original bathroom was stuck in the 1990s, featuring faux Tuscan beige tones and a tub-shower surround made from pre-formed plastic. A lowered ceiling over the tub made the room feel small and cave-like, and the lack of natural light only added to the heaviness.
